Jakk - Resto/Boom Druid

Postby jakk on Sun Jan 03, 2010 9:09 pm

Character Name: Jakk
Character Class: Druid
Character Race: Night Elf
Character Level: 80
Your Age: 24
Are you a recent or potential transfer? (If yes, what server?): No

Raid Experience: I began raiding in June of 09. My raid experience consisted exclusively of PUGS, including and through ToC10/25. From Sept to Dec 09, I took a break, at which point, I was lured back into the game by a friend. He has since left DEM (my current guild), but I stayed, and have cleared ICC10 with them. DEM is not large enough to clear 25 mans, and does not have the player ability to clear ToGC10. I have cleared up to Anub via PUG in ToGC. I have also cleared many of the hardmodes in Uld10 via PUG.

• Icecrown Citadel (25): Marrowgar

Guild Information:

• Previous Guild Name(s): Deus Ex Machina
• Reason(s) for leaving: Not enough members for 25 man raids, lack of organization and dedication by officers and leaders. The guild is also hemmoraging members.
• Reason for joining DMT: DMT is a progression oriented guild that doesn't require a second career at home. The impression I get is that the guild is well organized, and the DMT players I have seen in PUGs are all far above average.

Character Information:

• Gear / Talent Specialization (Armory Link):

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-tale ... ge&cn=jakk
Also see: http://www.wow-heroes.com/index.php?zon ... &name=jakk

Other:

• Play Times (Days/Times of the week. NOT your /played.): Flexible
• Are you willing to respec for the guild?: Of course
• Do you have friends in the guild?: Chucky/Afridi
• Raiding Reputations (Helmet/Shoulder Enchants, Rings): Exalted, minus AV
• Current Primary Professions: Enchanting, Tailoring
• Do you farm anything? (Gear, Reputation, Materials, Gold...): Not in particular, but I do have a collection of enchanting mats. I also fish...
• Do you have a WWS/WoL link?: ICC25
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/4usi ... 826&e=2236
• Why should we pick you?: I can change roles on the fly. I can heal in balance spec if a healer goes down with no bres available, and I can switch to bear form if a tank goes down (although, this is not ideal... :) ). My dps/hps performance has always been significantly above people of similar gear in PUGs.
• Anything else you would like to tell us?: Work hard, play hard. Be the best, or go home.

Some of the gemming may be a bit odd, as some pieces do serve double duty in both my resto and balance sets. The belt is a good example, having a crit gem in it for the socket bonus (blue/yellow/generic). It could, of course, always be gemmed straight for SP, but crit does help with druids if the need to spam nourish arises. I also have enough Frost badges to start T10, but have not purchased any, as I don't know if I'll be of more use as a boomkin or a tree. Gear and gemming can be adjusted as needed.

I have 2 healed the Twins in ToGC10, and was holding steady at about 7.5k hps with a pally healer. The WoL link shows ~5k hps MT healing in a ICC25. I was the only healer (self assigned) specifically healing the tanks. Everyone else was healing everything, as evidenced by the healing distribution.

On a heroic dummy, I will do a solid 6k dps self-buffed. Raid dps will vary dependent on the movement involved in any particular fight. Hit is capped with hit food (225 + 40, need 263 without heroic presence).

• Have you read and understood the following?: All applicants are required to have proper gems / spec / enchants / glyphs / professions for a PvE environment. (i.e. Best in slot everything.) If you do not meet this minimum requirement we will say mean things to you: Yup.

Well your gems and enchants were decent at a glance, so that's a good start. But, neither of your specs make any sense to me at all.

Resto: No NS? Really? REALLY? No CF? I know you're not at the soft haste cap without it, or even close. Glyph of Rapid Rejuv for a 25 man guild? No Glyph of WG?

Balance: I'm not a moonkin, but you took typhoon and zero points genesis, and I don't think that is super awesome times. Zero points Nature's Reach? No treants? You also took 3/3 Intensity, which isn't the end of the world, but why?

• Raiding Reputations (Helmet/Shoulder Enchants, Rings): Exaulted

I'll let Piph comment on the spelling. I will say that your ICC ring says "Honored" on it.

Overall your gear is a bit behind we are looking for anyway. Sometimes we can overlook bad gear and fill in the gear gaps as we go, but it seems that you need to check out EJ for some tips, or ask some people for pointers... Something.

I won't get mad at you because it at least looks like you tried, which is more than I can say for most of the apps around here recently.

Also: Your name reminds me of this game (that I have never played) that I used to see advertised a lot. I thought I should mention it for no particular reason.

As stated in my app, my current guild does not have the capacity to run 25 mans. We also lack a pally healer. As such, I have been MT healing in our 10 man raids, and my talent tree and glyphs reflect that; our other healer is a holy priest, and the third healer varies, but is usually a shammy. DMT asked if I'm willing to respec, and I certainly am; I did for DEM. Living Seed and Empowered touch were specifically taken for the times when nourish needs to be spammed in addition to having 4 hots up on both (or 3) tanks. It was agreed that NS was a sacrifice, as it would likely only be used twice per fight. Yes, it does heal roughly 10-15% more than Swiftmend.

As stated, I am more than willing to respec/regem/reglpyh according to the guild's needs. GCD as-is is 1.137, and .947 with Nature's Grace up. Yes, I know rapid rejuv is not viable for 25 man raid healing. I currently use a macro to reject heroism; 9 second rejuv is great, but not really useful.

Typhoon was taken specifically for Saurfang by request from my current guild. Adds can (still) be blown off the side of the encounter. We cleared the first week without using typhoon via frost trap and entangling roots.

Genesis was not taken due to lack of strength in my gear. I will run out of mana in extended length fights without Intensity; as boomkin I am typically innervating undergeared (more so than I am) healers. Additionally, without food, I am at 225 hit, so Balance of Power must be taken. Those 5 points would otherwise be in Genesis. At this point, dropping the point into Insect Swarm/Improved Insect Swarm returns more DPS than dropping 4 points into Genesis. Current testing shows that I can cast straight for about 1.5 million damage before running out of mana, solo. The total number can vary with the amount crits I get, but is fairly consistent within 200k damage or so.

Spec will be changed accordingly when the gear changes or guild needs dictate.

Oops. Corrected.

Looking over your guild's roster, it seems that everyone is resto and/or feral. Based on this, I am tempted to focus on boomkin itemization. Criticism and guidance is always appreciated.

Right now Jakk is at 654 haste and without the 3 pts into CF he is way under by 202 haste rating.

I would highly recommend putting in 3 pts into CF until you reach the soft haste cap 736 haste rating. Based on his gear if he has the badges I would definitely get the helm of abundant growth (74 haste) and with the proper gemming (reckless ametrine) for haste, Jakk would be at 738

Jakk I have attached a link of my spec:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-tale ... n+Templars

This is more ideal for resto druids. If you want you could put 3/3 into subtlety in lieu of 1 pt into tranquil spirit.

Glyph of wg is a must. That should be the priority glyph. That is a huge loss on your healing output.

NS is a must especially if you need to get somebody back up and not waste time casting rebirth.

Well almost....ashen verdict (honored) and im shocked hes not exalted with The Kalu'ak.....you gotta have that fishing pole...its epic:

Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
Binds when picked up
UniqueTwo-Hand Fishing Pole
447 - 672 Damage Speed 3.00
(186.5 damage per second)
(1843 feral attack power)
Durability 75 / 75
Requires Fishing (300)
Item Level 200
Requires The Kalu'ak - Exalted
Equip: Fishing skill increased by 30.
Equip: Allows underwater breathing.

Even though I dont play moonkin and I have not respecced for it as yet...the optimal spec is 58/0/13. Jakk only needs 1 or 2 pts into genesis in order to reach the 3rd level on the tree. Now if he takes the 5 pts into genesis then he/she would have to lose insect swarm+imp insect swarm and select another glyph instead of glyph of insect swarm. Insect swarm is part of my rotation. So its a question of giving up a dot plus 3% increased wrath damage+3% crit strike chance for starfire for a periodic 5% increased spell damage. Not sure on this since I have not researched this on EJ as yet. Maybe Jakk can elaborate on this subject.

Now Jakk should have nature's reach and treants and does not need 3/3 intensity which is not necessary for 25 man raids. I tried finding info on why intensity would be needed for moonkin spec..... no luck on that.

This is precisely why I have saved my emblems :) I've yet to have any real interactions with serious players.

Now I'm actually excited to play, just so I can try that helm :o

I should also add that I use a slightly different gearset when MT healing, as it is much more mana intensive. That gearset sacrifices SP for Spirit...

Anyways, updated spec; will be giving it a try this week and comparing WoL logs.

I do appreciate the help with suggestions; you either have an exceptional knowledge of the game, or are just used the armory to search for upgrades... :D

The intense scrutiny is also a welcome change. I got ninja-recruited into DEM. "We need you to join the guild for guild achievements" and BAM, I was already sucked in... haha

Regardless, we do not have any use for another resto druid at this time. We could use a moonkin however if you can manage to fix that.

Anything in particular you are looking for? The only major changes I would make at this point are to remove the points from Intensity and drop them into Genesis, and swap typhoon for treants. The 3 points in Genesis should be good for about 45-50 dps dependent on eclipse uptime. I'd prefer to use a haste potion during the fight, but will settle for a mana pot if mana use becomes a serious issue in a 25 man.

Gear wise, I'd be jumping straight into T10; first 2T10/2T8, and then into 4T10

I had a feeling the owl/deer/bear would be the stronger candidate, and they ARE far less common than kitties, bears and trees. Nobody can resist the fat suit dance.

Whew for a second I thought I was outta of a job.

The only thing I can suggest for the boomkin 58/0/13 is playing around with genesis and/or insect swarm+imp swarm.....and practice on a target dummy and see which gives u the better overall dps. The only thing I see for giving up insect swarm for genesis, it does simplify your rotation.
